2014 4R Advocates at the Commodity Classic

16th Apr 2014 4R Events,

In February, we had the pleasure of sharing the 4R nutrient stewardship message with growers, media and agribusiness professionals at the 2014 Commodity Classic. Set in beautiful San Antonio on the famous River Walk, the Classic is one of that nation’s largest agricultural trade shows, focused and led by growers of corn, soybean, wheat and sorghum. The 2014 Classic had record attendance of more than 7,300 people.

We had a great presence at the show and were able to connect directly with growers about The Fertilizer Institute’s (TFI) role in promoting nutrient stewardship practices and advocating for the strength of the fertilizer industry. We engaged with growers regarding 4R nutrient stewardship: using the right fertilizer source at the right rate, at the right time and in the right place. Assisting us in spreading the word were our 4R Advocate Award winners, growers who were nominated by their retailers for their standout efforts toward nutrient stewardship.

Five retailer and grower pairs were awarded an all-expense-paid trip to Commodity Classic. During the trade show, each pair joined TFI staff in the booth to raise awareness and share their success stories of responsible nutrient stewardship with ag media, growers and key stakeholders.

Managing nutrient inputs is an essential task of growers and retailers. These practices have positive environmental and economic impacts, helping keep nutrients in the plants’ root zone and reducing losses from crops. Our 4R Advocate winners are great examples of farmers and retailers who are working toward social, environmental and economic benefits through exceptional fertilizer best management practices. In the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing their individual stories on The Voice to utilize their knowledge and experiences to educate others. We want to thank each of our 4R Advocates for their efforts in responsible nutrient management.
