In July, 4R Partner CF Industries Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:CF), a global leader in nitrogen fertilizer manufacturing, completed the sale of a large block of carbon reduction credits to Chevrolet. As a result of that sale, CF Industries has donated the net proceeds of $600,000 to the National FFA Foundation to support excellence in farmer education and fertilizer best management practices (additional details).
The donation to FFA by CF Industries has opened a door for inclusion of 4R Nutrient Stewardship education and materials into FFA. As an initial effort to support FFA activities, TFI and CF Industries are co-sponsoring two workshops at the 2014 Annual FFA Convention. The workshop, “Sustainability, Hunger and the Environment: Navigating Fertilizer’s Future”, will be repeated twice.
The workshop will educate members on
challenges facing agriculture relative to fertilizer use, provide details on
industry efforts to address these challenges, and inform members about tools
they can use in their community for service, outreach and advocacy. Using
infographics, we will navigate the challenges and opportunities regarding
fertilizer use. Then we’ll discuss the basics of infographic creation and have
participants create their own using a selected set of related data.
Participants will have the opportunity to submit their design to us for review
and possible selection for further professional development of their info
graphic.
