Celebrating its Fifth Year, the 4R Nutrient
Stewardship Program Honors Fertilizer Retailers and Growers who demonstrate a
Strong Commitment to Nutrient Use Efficiency
WASHINGTON, D.C. –
The Fertilizer Institute (TFI) today kicked
off the 2016 4R Advocate Awards
Program with a call for entries from retailers wishing to highlight
exceptional nutrient stewardship practices of their farmer customers.
Celebrating its fifth anniversary, the 4R Advocate Award program recognizes
farmers who protect and improve the environment, boost profitability and
benefit surrounding communities through nutrient stewardship practices known as
the 4Rs: using the right nutrient source, at the right rate, at the right time and in the right
place.
As program rules
dictate, retail dealers nominate their customers for the awards. The dealers are
also recognized with 4R awards for their supporting roles.
Nomination forms
and details for the 2016 4R Advocate Awards are now available exclusively on
the Nutrient Stewardship site
at this link http://www.nutrientstewardship.com/4r-advocate.
Entries must be submitted online and are due November 6, 2015. Winners will be announced in December.
Throughout 2016, 4R Advocates will
serve as spokespersons and share their stories of how they use fertilizer best
management practices to improve nutrient use efficiency on their farms. Their work
demonstrates the commitment fertilizer retailers and growers have to help
protect the environment.
“The farmers and retailers honored as 4R
Advocates demonstrate that best nutrient management practices and environmental
protection go hand-in-hand with a positive return on investment,” Chris Jahn,
TFI president, said. “These awards add value to the 4R Nutrient Stewardship Program
because they engage growers, retailers and allies with peers who can share
their real-world stories. By including the input and help of supporting
organizations, we’re able to share these successes with a growing list of
farmers and other stakeholders.”
The five winning growers, spouses and their nominating retailers will receive
an expense-paid trip to Commodity
Classic, March 3 – 5 in New Orleans, La. The Commodity Classic is the annual gathering for America’s
soybean, corn, wheat and sorghum farmers. At the Classic, 4R Advocates will see
the latest farming innovations, share ideas with other growers and agricultural
leaders. They will be honored at an invitation-only banquet. Profiles and
videos featuring interviews with previous 4R Award winners can be viewed here.
