On July 10th Gov. John Kasich signed legislation that will provide up to $3 million for the Healthy Lake Erie Fund. Along with supporting Lake Erie water quality monitoring and soil testing in the Western Lake Erie basin, the fund will support research and pilot projects to increase implementation of 4R nutrient stewardship practices. The legislation developed as a result of the “Director’s Agricultural Nutrients and Water Quality Working Group” report that recommended 4R nutrient stewardship as the foundation for Ohio’s strategy to address algal blooms in Lake Erie. The commitment of TFI members The Andersons, Inc., Morral Companies and the Ohio Agribusiness Associations were instrumental in leading to this outcome.
