Iowa Agriculture Water Alliance
The Iowa Agriculture Water
Alliance (IAWA) is dedicated to increasing the pace and scale of farmer-led
efforts to improve water quality. IAWA, a nonprofit organization, focuses on
science-based practices proven to have quantifiable water quality benefits.
Founded by the Iowa Corn Growers Association, Iowa Soybean Association and Iowa
Pork Producers Association, we are raising awareness for improved nutrient
management and other in-field and edge-of-field practices that reduce nutrient
loss and improve water quality.
Although
IAWA’s mission is broadly water quality improvement, our near term work plan is
very focused on accelerating implementation of the Iowa Nutrient Reduction
Strategy. The strategy sets a goal of a
41% reduction in nitrogen and a 29% reduction in phosphorus from nonpoint
sources. Optimizing nutrient management in terms of the right rate, right
place, right time, and right nutrient source is one essential component of
implementing the strategy. We look forward to continuing to work with TFI, IPNI
and many of the 4R Partners to work toward transformational changes that will
improve water quality in Iowa.
IAWA will serve an important coordinating role, promoting and enhancing
field days that will include 4R principles, accelerating watershed scale
planning that will include 4Rs, and identifying and leveraging farmers who are
leading the way and improving nutrient stewardship. IAWA does not sell products
or services, and does not provide direct technical assistance to
producers.
