New York’s many freshwater lakes and rivers supply drinking water to one of the largest populated watersheds in the country, New York City. Each day, more than 1 billion gallons of fresh, clean water is delivered from large upstate reservoirs—some more than 125 miles from the City—to the taps of nine million customers throughout New York state. The water entering these systems is often been in contact with NY agriculture. Cleaner water entering these systems helps provide a high-quality product at a lower cost. Through the implementation of 4R practices farms in NY can see an economic benefit on the farm, an environmental benefit to the public, and a social benefit to all of us that use NY waters for drinking and recreation.

NYSABA members believe in being pro-active about protecting this valuable natural resource at its source, for our neighbors, our industry and our future. This aligns with our stated goal of promoting scientifically sound agronomic practices for the success of the Agribusiness Industry in New York State and in support of New York’s farmers.
